Northwest Yeshiva High School....
-
Promotes excellence in education. Our students depend on us. We
believe education should not exist simply to transmit knowledge.
It is our responsibility to maintain an environment that encourages young
minds to ask questions, and to clarify their ideas.
-
Believes that Judaism is a complete way of life that embraces and celebrates
many of the best aspects of the religious and secular worlds, and aspires
to serve students from the Jewish community with diverse Jewish experiences
and perceptions.
-
Enables students to become increasingly sophisticated thinkers, both critically
and creatively. The Yeshiva strives to instill in its students a
lifetime of devotion to, and love of, learning for its own sake.
-
Is the only full-time, fully accredited Jewish high school in the Pacific
Northwest.
-
Has the lowest annual tuition of any Jewish high school in the United
States.
-
Has served the Greater Seattle Jewish community since 1974.
-
Has graduated over 157 students, to date.
-
Students benefit from small class sizes, a demanding curriculum, and outstanding
faculty.
-
Provides a comprehensive Torah Studies program which emphasizes the development
of skills, a broad knowledge of Judaism, and critical thinking.
-
Graduates (over 75%) continue their Jewish education in the United States
and Israel.
-
Provides one of the most-demanding General Studies programs in the city.
This includes math, science, language arts, social studies, and foreign
language, plus an outstanding physical education program conducted at the
Stroum Jewish Community Center.
-
Graduates go on to study at fine universities and colleges throughout the
country, such as Princeton University, Columbia University, Brandeis University,
Carnegie Mellon University, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York
University, the University of Washington, Stern College, Yeshiva University,
Barnard College, Stonybrook University, Hebrew University, University of
Pennsylvania, and Bar Ilan University.
-
Provides a Jewish high school education to New Americans from the former
Soviet Union.
-
Students perform community services each year they are enrolled.
In addition, many students actively work with agencies such as the Jewish
Family Service Food Bank, Jewish youth groups, local synagogues, and the
Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle's "Super Sunday."
-
Does not turn away any qualified students because of inability to pay tuition.
As a result, many of our students pay greatly reduced tuition. Tuition
pays for less than half of the actual cost of a year's education
for one student. Currently, that cost is $13,500.
-
Has an annual operating budget of over one million dollars.
-
While the school is a beneficiary agency of the Samis
Foundation and the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle, the Yeshiva depends
in large part upon operating support from individuals and corporations.
-
Is located on Mercer Island, between Seattle and Bellevue.
-
Has recently expanded the school building to accommodate greater enrollment.
